The duplicate search offers various setting options and is divided into the following sections in the dialog:
Search in: Here you can specify whether you want to search in the entire database or in the current filmstrip. A source-target search is also possible, with the filmstrip serving as the source and an entire catalog as the target. This means that the photos that are duplicates or similar duplicates to the photos from the filmstrip are still searched for in the catalog.
Duplicate type: In the second step, you can specify the type of duplicate. Exact duplicates are photos that are not only visually identical, but are also the same file in binary terms. The binary hash representations of these files are therefore identical. It should be noted that the search takes longer due to the file access and hash calculation. Near duplicates are photos that are visually similar. The degree of similarity can be set from very strict to very loose. Strict represents a high degree of visual similarity. We recommend this mode as the default setting. In the third mode, you can find duplicates that are elements of photo series and whose shooting dates differ only slightly. The time interval between these photos can be set using a slider.
Filter: Additional filter options are also available for searching for duplicates. You can specify the minimum number of duplicates that should belong to a duplicate group and whether duplicates that consist of only one JPG/RAW pair should be ignored.
Options: In addition to overwriting a result set, you can specify here whether duplicate groups should be combined into groups. The number to be specified indicates how many result groups are to be combined in each case. This ultimately results in a results hierarchy of two levels, i.e. groups of results groups.

Note for existing Excire Foto customers: Excire Foto users have to keep in mind for testing that the previous Excire database will be modified when the program is started for the first time. Thus a switch back to older versions is not possible without a backup. We therefore recommend creating a backup before using Excire Foto 2024. How to do this is described here.
