Tips for Finding People and Assigning Names

Below are some advanced tips for finding faces and assigning names, which will help you work more efficiently with larger image collections.

Finding photos of a specific person who hasn’t been assigned a name yet

  1. Select a photo where the person is clearly visible. Start a people search using this photo with the following settings:
  1. Face selected
  2. Under "Filter by Keywords," select the person’s name and click on “Use photos without these keywords” to enable exclusion of this keyword.

Next steps

To assign the name to these photos, first remove any photos where the person was incorrectly identified. Then select the remaining images in the view (keyboard shortcut CTRL + A or CMD + A on Mac) and enter the name in the right-hand column under the Faces tab.

Finding photos of any people who haven’t been assigned a name yet

1. Use the face search (not the person search) to find "any faces." This will return images of people in general. Make sure the maximum number of search results is set high enough.

2. Now use the keyword search only for the current view. Exclude the names already present in your database from the search.

Next steps

To assign a name, select a face and follow the steps above to assign a name to all photos of a specific person.
